What is the Rewind Technique?

The Rewind Technique is a type of therapy used to treat trauma - all types of PTSD and phobias. It is a way of tidying that traumatic memory away in to a filing cabinet so that the involuntary recall (flashbacks, nightmares etc) will stop; you will still be able to recall the memory voluntarily if you wish.

How does it work?

The Rewind Technique is different to other treatments because it doesn't involve any disclosure of details, so as the client, you do not need to talk about what happened. It provides 'closure without disclosure'. This means that there is less risk of you becoming retraumatised by talking about it, and also makes accessing help less stressful as there is no risk or fear of disclosing information involved.

The Rewind Technique requires only 2-3 sessions to provide closure for single event traumas, and research shows no relapses within 2 years (British Journal of Clinical Psychology). It has been really life changing for many.

In the case of multiple traumas, these can often also be dealt with in the same session; please do get in touch if you'd like to discuss this more.
